Ngoye Lodge Responsible Tourism Policy
Community Engagement:
Ngoye Lodge is committed to active engagement with the local community. Our staff actively
participates in beautification projects with the volunteer organization PUG (Pop Up Gardens),
enhancing the village with plants and gardens. We are proud partners of PUG, collaborating on
various initiatives, such as the implementation of mulching practices in the village.
Environmental Sustainability:
At Ngoye Lodge, we prioritize environmental sustainability through various initiatives. Our practices include “Farming God’s Way” incorporating mulching, fungi gardens, and soil protection to ensure its nutrition. Nguni Cottage operates off the grid, and we are transitioning to solar energy in 2024.
Cultural Preservation:
Ngoye Lodge actively contributes to the preservation of local culture and traditions. Guests are encouraged to explore the culturally rich village of Mtunzini, learning about our heritage through guided tours. We promote awareness of local cultural practices and encourage visits to other cultural sites in the area.
Waste Management:
Our commitment to waste management includes recycling, bokashi composting, and avoiding single-
use plastics. Additionally, we use 100% compostable take-out containers and cutlery. Recycling bins
will be provided in all rooms to enhance waste reduction efforts. Our aim is to reach Zero Waste.
Conservation Efforts:
Biodiversity is on display at Ngoye Lodge coupled with soil care (erosion prevention, thick mulching and compost making) Dead wood is used to promote fungi growth. Ngoye Lodge supports conservation by maintaining a lush garden with indigenous plants that attract and support local wildlife, including the Palm Nut Vulture and other Birds unique to this area. Our staff are actively involved with AIP removal in the village.
Guest Education:
We prioritise guest education on responsible tourism practices through in-room materials such as guest books and brochures. Our staff actively engages with guests, emphasising principles such as “Gardening Gods Way”, sustainable farming, and the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. We have labelled our tree in order to educate our guests on the indigenous trees in our gardens.
